Best Online Communities for Marketing.

Confused between Digg and Delicious?  Twitter and Flickr?  Any of the other 1,000,000 burgeoning online communities floating about?  Here is a quick run-down of the key sites you can use to your marketing advantage:

Blogs - Used for sharing your thoughts, experience and opinions with others.  Examples: WordPress, Blogspot.

Microblogs - Short and to the point.  Great for sharing links to websites and other media.  Examples: Twitter, Tumblr, Co-op, Jaikur.

Social media platforms- Great for hosting and sharing media.  Examples: YouTube, Flickr, Snapfish, Google Videos, SlideShare.

Social networks – For connecting with people online (aka. “networking”). Examples: Myspace, Facebook, LinkedIn.

Social bookmarks & Collaborative harvesters - Great for sharing blog posts and other user generated content with others.  Examples: Delicious, Delirious,Digg, Reddit, Mixx.

Collaborative directories – For contriburing your knowledge on a specific subject.  Examples: Wikipedia, Google Knoll.

Q&A forums – Great for helping others with specific questions (Read some of my earlier blogs on the importance of “giving back”).  Examples: Yahoo! Answers, Google Answers, Wiki Answers.
